What is a

Labiaplasty?

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that can either reduce or increase the size of your labia, improving its appearance, reducing physical discomfort, or as part of your gender-affirming surgery.

The labia are the folds of skin around your vaginal opening consisting of the Labia Majora (outer folds) and the Labia Minora (inner folds). The Labia Majora are the larger fleshy folds that protect your external genital organs and are covered in pubic hair when you reach puberty. The Labia Minora are the skin folds that protect the opening of your urethra and vagina.

During your labiaplasty and depending on what you would like changed, Dr. Jaiswal will do one of the following:

  • Remove some tissue from your labia to reduce its size
  • Inject a filler material or fat into your labia to enlarge it
  • Reconstruct your labia using other tissue

Who are the Best Candidates for a Labiaplasty?

The Best Candidates for Labiaplasty in Las Vegas are those who wish to alter their labia for several reasons:

  • Cosmetic/ Emotional Reasons – Childbirth and aging have an effect all over the human body and your labia is no different. Patients who are unhappy with the appearance of their labia often utilize Labiaplasty to help them regain their self-confidence.

  • Medical/ Physical Reasons – Some patients require Labiaplasty to relieve certain pain caused by their inner labia twisting, turning, pinching, or tugging, often caused by exercise, physical activities, or even intercourse.

  • Gender-affirming Surgery – When you are undergoing a gender-affirming process, Labiaplasty can create a labia using existing genital tissue. It can be performed before or after any other reconstructional surgeries.

As with any cosmetic surgery or body modification, Dr. Jaiswal believes that anyone considering Labiaplasty is first and foremost of sound mind. Additionally, you should be in overall good health and maintain realistic expectations for your procedure.

What to Expect on the Day of Surgery?

When you arrive at our state-of-the-art surgery center in the heart of Las Vegas, you will need to change into a surgical gown. Your vitals will be checked by a healthcare professional and you may be required to have some blood work and urinalysis done again.

Your labia and surrounding skin will then be cleaned and shaved if needed. Once this is done, you will be administered either some local or general anesthesia, depending on the procedure you are having (this will be discussed during your consultation). Dr. Jaiswal will then begin to perform your procedure.

Reduction Procedure

When you undergo a reduction procedure, Dr. Jaiswal will use one of two procedures.

1. A Trim Procedure removes any excess tissue from the outer edge of one or both sides of your Labia Minora so that it’s even with or receded from the edges of your Labia Majora.

2. A Wedge Procedure is when a wedge (pie-shaped) piece of tissue is removed from the inner areas of one or both sides of your Labia Minora. The submucosa will be left intact so when the labia is stitched up, the wrinkled edge of your labia remains. This approach retains a more natural look for the Labia Minora.

Enlarging Procedure

When enlarging your Labia Majora, Dr. Jaiswal will take small amounts of fat from another part of your body (such as your abdomen or thigh) using a liposuction procedure. This fat will then be injected into your Labia Majora.

Gender-affirming Surgery

During this surgery, tissue from your penis will be used to create your labia.

All incisions from these procedures are closed with absorbable stitches that will dissolve over time and don’t need to be removed. The operated site will then be covered with surgical dressing.

Labiaplasty generally takes a few hours, however, gender-affirming surgery will require more time.

Labiaplasty Recovery

During your recovery, you will experience some swelling, discomfort, and pain, however, this is usually easy to manage with over-the-counter medication or a temporarily prescribed medication. If these medications do not help ease your pain, please contact us immediately. You may also apply ice packs or cold compresses on top of a cloth undergarment for about 20 minutes at a time to help ease your discomfort. Most patients experience only mild pain or tenderness for a few days. You may also experience some bleeding for a few days or even up to a week following your surgery. Wearing a mini-pad can help absorb the bleeding.

Dr. Jaiswal may also prescribe you an oral antibiotic prescription or topical ointment to prevent any infection. You should wear loose-fitting pants and undergarments during your healing period as tight-fitting clothes can cause friction and prevent or delay the healing process.

You will be able to return to work and other light activities after a few days. If your job involves any physical activity or heavy lifting, you may need to stay home longer. You should avoid strenuous exercise, physical activity, and sexual intimacy for at least four to six weeks, or until Dr. Jaiswal clears you.
