Types of

Breast Augmentation

There are so many options available for Breast Augmentation these days. While it’s always a great thing to have options, it can be incredibly overwhelming for people who are not “in the know”. At its most basic level, there are two available options for augmentation: Implants and Fat Transfer.

Implant Augmentation options:

  • Saline Breast Implants: Filled with sterile salt water and can provide a uniform shape, firmness, and feel. If a saline implant shell leaks, the implant will collapse and the saline is naturally absorbed and expelled by your body.
  • Structured Saline Breast Implants: Also filled with sterile salt water, but contains an inner structure to make the implant feel more natural.
  • Silicone breast implants: Filled with silicone gel that gives it a more natural breast tissue feel. If a silicone implant leaks, the gel can remain within its shell but can leak into the breast implant pocket. Should it leak, the implant will not collapse.
  • Gummy Bear Breast Implants: Sometimes called “Form-stable” implants, they maintain their shape even if the implant shell is broken. The consistency of the silicone gel is thicker than traditional silicone gel implants, which also makes them firmer. The shape of the implant will give your breasts more projection at the bottom and tapered towards the top. While rare, these implants can rotate which creates an unusual appearance that requires a separate procedure to correct. This type of implant does typically require a slightly longer incision.
  • Round Breast Implants: Gives your breast a fuller appearance than most form-stable implants and can achieve even more projection due to its higher profile. Due to the oval shape of these implants, they provide less concern for appearance if they rotate out of place.
  • Smooth Breast Implants: These implants have the softest feel, and can move freely within the breast pocket which makes them a more natural movement. These implants do have some palpable or visible rippling under the skin.
  • Textured Breast Implants: Develops scar tissue that sticks to the implant and makes them less likely to move around inside of the breast, preventing them from being repositioned. One of the advantages of this implant is the diminishing risk of a tight scar capsule.

Fat Transfer Augmentation

This form of implant uses fat removed from your body to help enlarge your breasts. The fat cells are sucked from specific areas of your body, purified, and then injected into your breasts. This allows for a more natural procedure with longer-lasting results, a more pleasing overall body shape, and requires fewer incisions and scarring. The downside of this technique is that there are more steps involved in the procedure and your body can absorb some of the fat which produces less dramatic results.

After meeting with Dr. Jaiswal for your follow-ups and he is able to monitor your progress, he will inform you of when you can resume more strenuous activities. On average, our Las Vegas patients require between four and six weeks to gradually resume their workouts.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are their scars after breast augmentation surgery?

Yes. Dr. Jaiswal typically recommends placing an incision in the fold underneath the breast. This results in a scar about 1.5 inches that are well hidden and typically heals quite well.

Is Breast Augmentation covered by insurance?

Since Breast Augmentation is an elective cosmetic surgery, insurance companies will not cover the procedure. That being said, some insurance providers will cover breast implants for women who have had mastectomies due to breast cancer. However, if you require additional surgery later on, there’s a higher probability that those procedures will not be covered. Also, there is a possibility that getting implants could affect your insurance rates. If you have any questions regarding your eligibility or how breast augmentation could affect your rates, please contact your insurance provider prior to scheduling your consultation.

Will I be able to breastfeed after Breast Augmentation?

Although it is possible to breastfeed after receiving breast implants, it will depend on the size and placement of your implant, as well as the type of surgery you’ve had. If your incisions are under the fold of your breast or through your armpit, there should be no problem breastfeeding in the future. We do encourage our patients to wait until after they are finished having children and breastfeeding before getting a breast augmentation. If this is a concern for you, please bring this up during your consultation with Dr. Jaiswal.

How many appointments will I need?

In addition to your consultation and surgery, you can expect at least three or four more follow-up appointments. Dr. Jaiswal will want to see you about a week post-surgery in order to remove any bandages or stitches, as well as monitor your initial recovery. After that, he will ask you to return between four and six weeks, at three months, and finally, at six months post-op. These appointments are strictly to ensure you are healthy and satisfied with your results. He may ask you to return for additional check-ups after that, but he will always give you an idea of when he’d like to see you again.

What are the risks and complications?

Despite Dr. Jaiswal having been highly trained and experienced in Breast Augmentation surgeries, and his desire to provide you with results you can be proud of, he will always make sure your health and safety are his number one priority. He feels that the best way to ensure this, is through full transparency, which is why we have provided some of the risks and side effects associated with Breast Augmentation:

  • Implant position changes
  • Implant leakage or rupture
  • Infection
  • Persistent pain

  • Wrinkling of the skin over the implant
  • Wrong or faulty position of the implant

If you have any concerning reactions during your recovery, please contact our clinic as soon as possible so that we may help.

Can I combine my breast augmentation with other surgeries?

Most likely yes! Popular combinations include breast augmentation with tummy tucks, liposuction, or fat transfer to the buttocks (BBL).

When will I see the results of my breast augmentation?

You will notice a larger size right away. However, it will take between 1-6 months (or longer) for the implants to settle into their final position. Patience is key when undergoing breast augmentation.

How long will the results last?

The results will be permanent. However, patients may decide later on to remove their implants or to change the size. In addition, patients may desire a breast lift later on.

Breast Augmentation Post Op Instructions

Post Op Timeline

  • 0-7 days: The implants will be high and tight appearing. The breasts will be bruised and swollen. It is not unusual for one breast to look somewhat different than the other one. Take pain medication as needed. Wear the bra as directed.
  • 1-2 weeks: Bruising should start to fade. Continue activity restrictions and bra-wearing.
  • 2-4 weeks: Swelling should continue to subside. The bruising should be mostly gone. The implants will be in a more settled position.
  • 1-3 months: Swelling should be almost completely gone.
  • Implants should settle to their final position. The breasts should have a natural appearance. Regular bras can be worn.
  • 3-12 months: Final results become apparent. Scars will continue to lighten and soften. Continue to wear a bra as much as possible. If a size change is desired, this can be entertained at this point.

Post-Op Medications

Please obtain the following medications prior to the procedure:

  • Valium tablets for muscle spasms
  • Norco tablets for post-op pain (prescription)
  • Zofran tablets for nausea (prescription)

Post Op Care

Post-op care is extremely important for ensuring the smoothest possible course. Please follow the directions below:

  • Avoid: Aspirin, Ibuprofen, and Benadryl until cleared by me
  • Activity restrictions: Make sure you are limiting movement with your arms and limiting weight to no more than 5 pounds with each hand. Do not stretch your arms and limit bending over. Do not move your shoulders above 90 degrees. No exercise until cleared by Dr. Jaiswal.
  • Sleeping: Try to sleep in a recliner or propped up on 2 pillows. Do not sleep on your stomach. Always sleep with a bra on.
  • Expectations: It can take 1-6 months (or longer) for implants to settle to their final position. Patience is very important as the implants drop and the swelling resolves. This is especially true if your implants are placed under the muscle and/or you start with tight breast tissues.
  • Implant size: The final choice of implant size is up to you. We do our best to guide you to choose the size which will give you the desired results, but the final choice is yours and ultimately the satisfaction with size choice lies with you. Be practical and listen to your surgeon more than you listen to your friends, family, or online postings.
