What is a

Tummy Tuck?

Let’s start with the basics. The actual name for the procedure is “abdominoplasty”, and is commonly referred to as a tummy tuck. This cosmetic procedure involves the removal of excess skin from the abdomen. During the operation, we tighten the muscle and fascia in the abdominal wall. The goal of the surgery is to provide a slimmer figure and a more firm stomach.

The results achieved through a Las Vegas tummy tuck will help you reach your aesthetic goals. While we are proud to be part of your journey, it’s important to maintain a healthy workout regimen before and after your surgery, have a nutritious diet, and have a positive outlook. It’s important to remember that abdominoplasty is not a weight loss surgery, we recommend that our patients are close to their ideal weight before the operation.

Who are the Best Candidates for a Tummy tuck?

While this is a routine surgery for Dr. Jaiswal, the operation is extensive. You’ll be in great care at our facility. However, we do ask that our patients meet the following criteria:

  • Tummy tuck candidates should be in good overall health.

  • Patients should refrain from smoking for several weeks prior to surgery.

  • Candidates should be close to their ideal weight before the operation.

  • We highly recommend that abdominoplasty patients have a healthy diet and a good workout regimen.

  • Candidates should be psychologically stable.

*We recommend that women patients considering having children wait until after childbirth before having the surgery.

What are the Benefits of Abdominoplasty?

There are so many great advantages to this surgery. During your consultation, we’ll work with you to evaluate your goals and explain what we’ll be able to accomplish with the surgery. Below, we’ve included some of the major benefits you can achieve from our tummy tuck in Las Vegas.

  • The surgery will provide a more toned and firm tummy.

  • We can eliminate a muffin top and bulge from the midsection.

  • Wave goodbye to any hanging skin due to weight loss.

  • The surgery will strengthen your abdomen muscles.

  • The greatest benefit of all is that you’ll feel and look more healthy and have more self-confidence!.

What to Expect on the Day of Surgery?

Your tummy tuck will be performed by Dr. Rohit Jaiswal in Las Vegas at the world-class Flamingo Surgery Center. The compassionate surgical team will guide you to a comfortable area while preparing for your surgery.

General anesthesia will be used, so our patients can comfortably rest and experience a painless operation. During the procedure, the surgeon will make an incision across the pubic area, from one hip bone to the other—allowing you to easily conceal the scar.

Dr. Jaiswal will tighten the underlying muscles with sutures, securely tightening any separated muscles in the abdomen. He will then remove excess fat and pull the remaining skin and tissue smoothly over the area— providing a restored tummy that will provide more self-confidence and allow you to fit better into desired clothes. Finally, he will close the incision, completing your abdominoplasty.

Typically, an expert plastic surgeon, Dr. Rohit Jaiswal takes approximately two hours to perform the tummy tuck procedure. If other surgeries are combined, the surgery will take longer.

Extended Tummy Tuck (High Lateral Tension Abdominoplasty)

A High Lateral Tension Abdominoplasty (HLTA) is a specialized tummy tuck technique that is used to repair loose abdominal muscles and tighten any sagging tissues in the abdomen, flanks, and thighs.

One of the biggest differences from a traditional tummy tuck is that The Extended Tummy Tuck tightens your skin horizontally and vertically across the abdomen. This technique enables Dr. Jaiswal to accentuate your hips while cinching your waistline, giving women that desirable “hourglass” figure, and providing a more toned, athletic look in men. Scars from this procedure will be longer and are often higher than scars from traditional tummy tucks and mini-tummy tucks. Due to there not being as much skin removed from the center of your stomach, your naval is often left as is.

Tummy Tuck at First Glance

Surgery Time: 2 – 4 hours

Price: approximately $7,500 (For an accurate cost, please ask during your consultation).

Recovery: Some patients experience numbness or a pulling sensation in their stomach for weeks or months, but this fades over time. It can take up to three months for the swelling and bruising to go down completely, and it may take longer than that for your scar to fade

Results: Recognizable after surgery, with long-lasting results. Most patients tend to see results between 2 and 3 months.

Anatomy of your Abdominal Muscles

While most of us know that the entirety of your digestive organs is located in your abdomen, what do we know about the muscles that protect them? We have that answer for you! Your abdomen consists of 4 primary muscle groups: Transversus abdominis, Rectus abdominis, External oblique muscles, and Internal oblique muscles.

Transversus abdominis – This is the deepest layer of muscle whose main role is to stabilize your torso and maintain internal abdominal pressure.

Rectus abdominis – Resting between your ribs and pubis (the front portion of your pelvic bone), the rectus abdominis contracts to create the sought-after “six-pack”. Its main function is to move the parts of the body between your pubis and ribs.

External oblique muscles – Located on each side of the rectus abdominis, these muscles allow your torso to twist from side to side, depending on which external oblique is contracted.

Internal oblique muscles – Flanked on either side of the rectus abdominis, your internal obliques are located just inside the hip bones. These muscles work in conjunction with your external obliques, but from the opposite side of the one contracting. For example, to get your torso to twist right, your left external oblique is contracting at the same time as your right internal oblique.

Limited Abdominoplasty / Mini Abdominoplasty

In addition to a Standard Abdominoplasty, or Tummy Tuck, Dr. Jaiswal offers his Las Vegas patients the mini (or limited) abdominoplasty. This is a smaller procedure that is provided to those with mild skin excess in the lower abdomen and muscle laxity, which occurs when the skin and fibrous bands lose elastin and collagen.

The Mini Tummy Tuck procedure requires a shorter incision than a regular Tummy Tuck, quite often without the need for your naval to be moved. With the placement of a lower horizontal incision, Dr. Jaiswal is given the access he needs to tighten your muscles and remove any excess skin. The resulting scar is similar to a cesarean section, however, it is a bit longer. This procedure also frequently uses Liposuction as part of the process.

Tummy Tuck Recovery

Following your surgery, Dr. Jaiswal will wrap your abdomen with a comfortable compression bandage. You’ll need to wear the bandage for several weeks, and not remove it until the surgeon gives you his okay. Bruising and swelling are perfectly normal and will subside after a few weeks. Prescription medication can be prescribed to help alleviate any pain and discomfort. You should only take the medication as prescribed and stop when the pain has gone away.

We highly recommend a family, friend, or loved one stay with you for a few days following surgery, as normal daily activities can be more difficult for a few days and your activity levels should be limited.

The highly trained team at Atelier Plastic Surgery will provide precise post-operative instructions following surgery. These should be followed as closely as possible, as they’ll lead to a quick recovery and reduce the chance of complications.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I become pregnant after my Tummy Tuck?

You’ve just started getting used to your new, flatter stomach but now, you’ve learned that you’re pregnant. What do you do? Well, first, Congratulations! Second, there is no need to worry! The female body is almost magical and will accommodate the developing new addition to your family. There are no risk factors, although your midsection will probably feel tighter. The tissue (or fascia) between your abdominal muscles will stretch, as well as the skin on your belly. There is the possibility that you may develop some skin redundancy, in which case a touch-up may be required to achieve your prepregnancy results.

What are the risks with a tummy tuck?

As with all plastic surgery operations, there is some risk. Our expert surgical team does everything possible to minimize the risks as much as possible. During your consultation, Dr. Jaiswal will go over all complications and risks that have been associated with the surgery. Below, we’ve listed a few:

  • There can be a change in sensation in the abdomen area
  • Infection
  • Bleeding
  • Chronic pain or discomfort are possibilities, although discomfort is normal and typically goes away
  • Irregularities in appearance

*It’s important to consult with your surgeon if you have any questions.

What can a tummy tuck not do?

A tummy tuck is not a weight loss surgery. It’s a body contouring procedure used to create a more aesthetically pleasing figure. The surgery can also not prevent you from gaining weight in the future. Common reasons patients gain weight are pregnancy, age, and hereditary reasons. While a tummy tuck can be a fantastic solution and the results can be permanent, a healthy diet and exercise are the only way to maintain the results.

How long will the results last?

Tummy tuck results are permanent. However, weight gain can still occur. We constantly remind our Las Vegas abdominoplasty patients to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Is a tummy tuck a solution for obesity?

No, this surgery is not a solution for obesity. Abdominoplasty patients should be close to their ideal weight before surgery. The procedure will help you shed a few pounds when removing stubborn fat and excess skin, but it’s not a solution for obesity.

What’s the difference between a tummy tuck and liposuction?

The two surgeries definitely have similarities, as they are both designed to sculpt the body, giving you a slimmer appearance. Patients often feel they need one when in reality they need the other. During your consultation, Dr. Jaiswal will be able to provide his expert recommendation on which procedure will be best for you. Liposuction is a body contouring procedure that is used to remove fatty deposits, it does not tighten the abdomen muscles. The only procedure that will do that, is a tummy tuck. Oftentimes, the procedures can be combined which will produce an even more desired appearance and optimal results.

Can I combine my tummy tuck with other procedures?

Absolutely! Many of our patients combine their abdominoplasty with breast surgery, such as breast augmentation, breast lift, or breast reduction. We call this a mommy makeover, as it’s designed to help restore a woman’s body to her pre-pregnancy figure. Oftentimes, liposuction is also done in conjunction with tummy tuck surgery. Other procedures patients commonly get are a thigh lift or arm lift.
