Introduction to

Asian Eyelid Surgery

In the beauty of diversity, we notice that our facial anatomies are racially different and specific. In East Asian faces, for instance, it is noted that eyelids can be thicker, thereby restricting the opening and visibility of the eyes. Asian eyes also have a weaker elevator, a muscle that helps keep an eyelid open, leading to a “monolid.” Some people of Asian descent want to get more folds in their eyelids so that their eyes can show more and help with aspects such as eye contact. If you are interested in Asian Eyelid Surgery in Las Vegas, consider getting in touch with board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Rohit Jaiswal of Atelier Plastic Surgery. What is

Asian Eyelid Surgery?

Asian Eyelid Surgery, also known as double eyelid surgery, helps form a natural-appearing fold in the upper eyelid, changing the appearance of the monolid and creating more space in the skin for multiple folds, expanding the eye-opening. Double eyelid surgery aids in accenting facial harmony and helps boost patients’ self-esteem.

One other adjunctive surgery can be applied to the sides of the eyes during a double eyelid surgery is a medial epicanthoplasty.

Medial Epicanthoplasty – Most Asians have a skin fold that extends for a few millimeters from the inner part of the upper eyelid to the inner lower eyelid skin, known as a “Mongolian fold” (medial epicanthal fold). Some patients opt to loosen this hold and perform an inner eyelid opening known as medial epicanthoplasty.

If you desire to have these adjunctive surgeries performed, we recommend that you discuss your ideas with Dr. Jaiswal during your initial consultation for your double eyelid surgery.

What’s the First Step?

The first step is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Jaiswal at Atelier Plastic Surgery. At the time of your consultation, please openly discuss your medical history and aesthetic goals and set realistic expectations for the look you want to achieve with your Asian Eyelid Surgery. Dr. Jaiswal will examine your eyes, detailing the eyelids as well as the sides of your eyes. He will analyze your overall facial anatomy and recommend if you are an ideal candidate for the double eyelid surgery. This is an appropriate time to bring up any lateral extension you want of your eyes so that he may or may not include the adjunctive surgeries.

Once you both agree on a way forward, Dr. Jaiswal will create a treatment plan for you. This treatment plan will then allow our patient coordinator to provide you with an accurate pricing quote for your Asian Eyelid Surgery, as well as any scheduling information and pre-operative instructions.

What to Expect on the Day of Asian Eyelid Surgery

On the day of your Asian eyelid surgery in Las Vegas, Dr. Jaiswal and his friendly staff will welcome you and get you comfortable in one of our state-of-the-art procedure rooms. They will also go over your treatment plan once more in case you want to incorporate any changes.

Your eyes will then be prepared for surgery by being cleaned and marked according to the discussed technique and target area. An anesthetist will then perform anesthesia to ensure that you are pain-free during the surgery.

Dr. Jaiswal will then carefully apply incisions along your natural folds to minimize scarring and achieve the desired aesthetic. Finally, the incisions will be closed, most likely with dissolvable sutures, and a compression bandage will be applied.

On average, the procedure takes between one to three hours.

Asian Eyelid Surgery Recovery

Once the procedure is done, you will be monitored in the recovery room. For extra safety, we recommend arranging a ride home with friends or family.

You will have swelling and soreness for the first few days, and it will fully resolve after a few weeks. We recommend you take the first few days off and keep your head elevated, staying on top of any post-surgery instructions shared. Stay hydrated, rest, and keep your daily activities to a minimum. We suggest walking as soon as possible to prevent the formation of any blood clots.

You may start driving 1-2 weeks after surgery and can resume physical activity 2-4 weeks post-surgery.

You will return to the office within the first week to monitor progress and recovery.

Asian Eyelid Surgery FAQs

Is Asian Eyelid Surgery Painful?

The surgery is performed under anesthesia and is thereby pain-free. After surgery, cold compresses and pain medications can be used to reduce discomfort and soreness.

How Many Appointments Will I Need?

You need a single appointment for the procedure itself. However, including the initial consultation and the first-week recovery appointment, we recommend patients plan for three appointments at the minimum. For anything beyond that, Dr. Jaiswal will prepare you for your one-week appointment when he asks you to come in to monitor recovery and take out any sutures.

How long until I see results?

Even though the results might be immediately apparent, they will become clearer as the swelling subsides, which takes a full two weeks.

Can I Combine Asian Eyelid Surgery with Other Procedures?

Absolutely, you can! Most patients who have received asian eyelid Surgery in Las Vegas at Atelier Plastic Surgery have considered combining it with a brow lift, neck lift, or chin augmentation for a refreshed facial appearance. We encourage you to bring up these ideas to Dr. Jaiswal at your initial consultation so that he can include them in his treatment planning and advise you on the best way forward toward your overall facial aesthetic goals.
